Friends of Saint Andrew's Church
Irnham launches a new scheme this autumn to involve the whole parish in their shared asset – the church. We can look back with satisfaction as the capital works draw to a close; we can look forward with trepidation to “keeping the show on the road.” In other words, the annual running costs for which (unlike the fabric repairs) no external grants are available. We are on our own.
Many households do not actively participate in church life – so it’s worth pointing out that a well-run church is what many potential property buyers look for in a rural village. Keeping the church running is arguably very beneficial to the value of your home. More importantly, many of those not members of the congregation have urgent need for the church at critical moments in their lives: Birth, Wedding, Funeral. St. Andrew’s will be there for you.
In order to balance the books we invite every household in our parish to join the new Friends of St. Andrew’s. The money raised will be accounted for separately and used only to cover the costs associated with the routine maintenance of the building and the churchyard. To give one example: if each household paid £15 a year, this would cover the cost of mowing and insurance.
